Sandra,

What do you know about titanium dioxide and zinc added to minerals as sunscreen?  I haven't checked, but do your pure skin minerals already contain these?

THanks so much!

Usually ALL mineral foundation will have titanium and/or zinc oxide. Titanium is usually the main ingredient. They both have a naturally occuring sunscreen in them. So any makeup with these ingredients will have some amount of sunscreen in them. We can't actually cliam a specific amount (such as SPF15) or it would need to be FDA regulated for the claims of being a sunscreen. Also different shades may contain different amounts of titanium or zinc.
So all in all - yes, mineral makeup can help to protect from the suns rays a bit, but if you are concerned about getting burned I would use another sun block as well.

I am really glad that someone brought up sun screen!  I am trying to find a good sunscreen that doesn't make me oily or break me out.  I would love to hear what other ladies use.  I actually ordered the Sun Kit from Sephora this week that contains a bunch of travel sizes of different sunscreens.  That should arrive tomorrow and I am excited to try some of the stuff.

Some back ground on me... I am 31 and have oily skin that always has blemishes and occasional break-outs.  I had skin cancer a couple years ago so sunscreen is very important for me, but I have yet to find a brand that I like to use.  I am currently using Aveeno SPF 55 spray which I do not care for.  Its ok for my body, but I don't like it on my face.  Most sunscreens made for the face are way too oily for me to use.

Hmm, should I have made this a new thread?

No Cass, your post there was fine!  It was about sunscreen anyway - so i'm not sure what you were concerned about?

I actually wish we could kick this board up a bit with more chit chat!
And some more background info - or whatever anyone wishes to chat about!

Everyone is always welcome to talk about anything and everything.. does not always have to be about makeup!

Cass,

Any comments on the sunscreens you have tried. I am trying to find one also. Something that don't break your skin out. It seems like every product out there is so heavy/thick/or oily.

I'm now allergic to every sunscreen except Water babies - that is the only one I've found so far that doesn't have any of the culprits in it.  On our trip I was afraid that would cause acne on my face since it's not a "face sunscreen" so I went against my better judgement and used the Aveeno face that has SPF 70 - unfortunately the first ingredient on the list is one of the culprits and by the end of the week my face was back to being completely broken out (dermatitis not acne) but it's almost back to normal now after two weeks of various treatments!  Ugh!

I know this is an old thread, but I'd like to add my experience. This summer I worked as a lifeguard at an outdoor pool, and I wore Sandra's Natural Bisque powder foundation and Pearl Silk Dust every day I worked. My shoulders burnt a couple of times (to the point of peeling once) but my face never burnt at all. A great sunscreen, in my opinion.

I have never had a sunburned face since I started using mineral makeup. Sometimes I will use Philosophy's SPF 20 facial moisturizer under my makeup, but it isn't really necessary for me. I have to use Neutrogena's Sensitive Skin sunscreen on the rest of my body as I can't use regular ones. They give me hives.

Hallo Ladies,

I'm new to this & I know that this thread is old - but since it is now summer....

My personal favorite for face sunscreen is ZO Oclipse.  It is a little more expensive, but works beautifully.  And no break-outs with it.  (Someone else said that Neutrogena gives them hives - well, me too.)

And I bought a wonderful hat this spring from sungrubbies.com.  It has a huge brim and really helps to keep the sun off of my face and shoulders.  Other than that I usually just cover up my body and stay out of the sun as much as possible during the day.

Best,
Soozhan

I am very allergic to some chemicals that tend to be present in many skin products including sunscreen.  The only sunscreen I have found to date that does not contain at least one of my allergens is Waterbabies.  Usually on my face, though, I will just put on my mineral makeup as I normally do and that's it - I've not had any burning and I am rather fair-skinned.
